Beckers Group inaugurated its new R&D Center in Shanghai’s Songjiang district. This marks a significant investment in technical capabilities to serve the Chinese coatings market.

The 20-person facility will house research teams for both coil coating and industrial coating applications, with dedicated space for customer collaboration and development of Radcure Technology – an ultraviolet curing system that reduces carbon emissions in coil coating production.

“The proof of innovation is sales. China is an important growth market for Beckers Group, and R&D plays a key role in helping us bring innovative and differentiated product solutions and capabilities to our customers,” says Gavin Bown, CTO at Beckers Group. “The new Beckers China R&D Center is both symbolic of and a key driver of that ambition.”

The investment, backed by Beckers’ owner Lindéngruppen along with the Beckers Group Board of Directors and Executive Committee, provides advanced laboratory infrastructure for developing coatings that meet local market requirements while advancing sustainability goals.

“This R&D center positions us to respond faster to customer needs with solutions developed specifically for the Chinese market,” says Benoit Giraud, managing director of Beckers China. “Our customers require both high-performance coatings and reduced environmental impact – this facility enables us to deliver both while strengthening our competitive position in the region.”

The center will focus on three priorities: developing innovative coating solutions for local applications, providing direct technical support to customers, and advancing sustainable technologies, including low-carbon formulations and UV-curing systems.

China represents a strategic growth market for Beckers Group’s coil coating and industrial coating businesses. The new R&D center supports the company’s Green Lights strategy by enabling faster development and deployment of sustainable coating technologies in the region.
